"Ren Jishi" ("The Father and Son Shishi Lions") is a popular Kabuki dance

It is based on an ancient Chinese tale in which the lion-like Shishi kicks its cubs over the edge of a precipice to test their strength and courage and raises only the cubs that climb back up to ensure that only the strongest survive. In Kabuki, actual father and son actors often play the roles of Shishi and his son. The theme of this doll is taken from this famous Kabuki performance. The creator is Akitoshi Matsuo.
