“GOSAIJIKI” Five Seasonal Splendors

While the climate varies greatly across the Japanese archipelago, people enjoy four distinct seasons with abundant natural bounties. Since ancient times & according to the season, traditional ceremonies have been held and continue to be enjoyed on suitable occasions all over the country.

These “GOSAIJIKI” depict five of the most typical seasonal splendors and make a perfect celebratory plates at family gatherings.

“New Year” (January 1st)… The rising sun and two Japanese cranes are depicted as motifs of celebration.

“Girls’ Festival” (March 3rd)… Dolls for the Girl’s Festival are displayed to wish good health and happiness.

“Boys’ Festival” (May 5th)… Carp streamers are used as a motif to wish for growth and success.

“Star Festival” (July 7th)… This depicts ‘wishes’ that children write on colored paper and place on bamboo branches for Vega and Altair.

“Moon Viewing” (September 15th)… The harvest moon and autumn grass are represented in gold and silver
