TAMAKUSHIGE are truly Japanese-made items created by expert craftsmen of the Echizen Lacquerware tradition. The word "TAMAKUSHIGE" is derived from the name of the beautiful jewelry boxes used by noble ladies of bygone eras. Originally square, KORINDO redesigned them to be round with soft curves. Once the shape has been achieved from the cherry wood base, specialist artisans apply layer after layer of urushi lacquer giving a beautiful deep luster. After the lacquer is completely dry, the genuine gold or silver Maki-e decoration is applied by hand.
