Light, Natural, Cedar Aroma Sake Set

Using straight grained Akita Cedar, development of the MAGEWAPPA craft began in the early 17th Century. Early examples took the form of lunch boxes, and were made by a solitary woodcutter in the Odate area of Northern Japan. The Lord of Odate Castle, impressed by the idea, then encouraged his samurai to work on the techniques and the craft began to grow in popularity.

Over the years new techniques and modern designs have been developed, some of which are featured in this wonderfully simple set. The decanter, for example, has a ‘handle’ which allows it to be easily removed from boiling water after the Sake contained within has reached its ideal temperature.

The Akita Cedar used in these products is more than 250 years old. Its insulating properties help maintain the desired temperature, whether warm or cool, of the contents of both the Sake Decanter and the Cups, but do not allow condensation to form on their surfaces. While the graceful form and beautiful natural color of each piece are pleasing to the eye, the faint aroma of the timber enhances the flavor of the Sake and the overall enjoyment of the set.
