When Katsuji Nousaku, CEO of NOUSAKU Corporation, first arrived at the foundry times were tough; the market for the products they were producing had already begun to shrink. Early in his career, a mother and son were on a tour of the foundry. In a loud, clear voice that was plain to hear, the mother told her son that if he didn’t go to university he would end-up working somewhere like the foundry. Nousaku and the artisans that were within earshot were dumbstruck! As rude as the women had been, Nousaku felt that what she said probably represented the opinion of most people. He decided there and then that part of his mission was to bring to the attention of the average person the fact that it is artisans, such as those working at the NOUSAKU foundry, who are the back bone of the Japanese economy.
