ABOUT

Hiroshi Ishiguro (M’) earned a D.Eng. in systems engineering at Osaka University, Japan in 1991. He has been a Professor of the Department of Systems Innovation at the Graduate School of Engineering Science at Osaka University since 2009, and Group Leader (since 2011) of the Hiroshi Ishiguro Laboratory at the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute (ATR).


The professor's research interests include distributed sensor systems, interactive robotics, and android science. He has published more than 300 papers in major journals and conferences, such as Robotics Research and IEEE PAMI. At the same time, he has developed several humanoids and androids, called Robovie, Repliee, Geminoid, Telenoid, and Elfoid. These robots have been reported on many times by major media organizations such as the Discovery Channel, NHK, and the BBC. In addition, the professor has received the best humanoid award four times at the RoboCup, and in 2011, he was presented with the Osaka Cultural Award.
