Reasons why you and your kid will love this bike
During their formative years, youngsters can easily pick up the motor skills associated with cycling. Learning on a bike with stabilizers, however, forces a child to concentrate exclusively on pedaling, while distracting her from balancing and steering; the very skills she needs to ride independently! When playing on a bike without pedals, children naturally stay upright using their own momentum and their feet to maintain balance. Conveniently, the Bentwood Balance Bike has no pedals! Kids quickly gain confidence in learning how to steer by propelling themselves with their feet, then coasting along with them off the ground. When it comes time to progress to a pedal cycle, they already have the necessary sense of balance and coordination making the transition quick and easy. The most attractive part of all this, of course, is that tired parents don't need to run up and down the road holding bike seats on Sunday afternoons! We like that!
A child's first bike marks a special moment for both parents and kids
A Bentwood Balance Bike is an excellent way to introduce your child to the joys of cycling. Presented this year (2011) with the prestigious Japanese GOOD DESIGN AWARD for excellence in design and craftsmanship, it's a great first bike for cool kids and eco-friendly families. Made in Japan from premium beech timber, it helps young ones develop balance, coordination and fine motor skills enabling them to progress to a pedal cycle with confidence. Ideal for both indoor and outdoor use, the pneumatic rubber tires make it perfect for riding on rough and bumpy outdoor surfaces, and will not mark or damage floors when used indoors. Allowing youngsters to master steering while virtually eliminating wipeout probability, the handlebars, equipped with PVC grips for safety and comfort, are designed to turn only fifteen degrees each way.
Highly valued and respected in many parts of the world, the beech tree, though hard and durable, demonstrates some degree of flexibility which facilitates bending. The timber used for the creation of the Bentwood Balance Bike is harvested from virgin forests formed some 8,000 years ago in Akita prefecture. Each bike is handmade by master cabinet makers using traditional wood bending techniques while being equipped with top quality bearings and maximum strength shafts, all made in Japan.
A beautiful, sturdy first bike that even with the inevitable 'patina' of knocks and scratches, will look great as a display piece while it waits for the kids to grow up and produce the next generation of riders!
